People have never lost their thirst for a meaning to life. In today’s society there is a rich diversity of belief systems and worship practices. Some people believe that there is no more than the here-and-now. But, there are so many good values that we already share and can work on together.
The threat of global terrorism has catapulted religion back to centre stage. We desperately all need to understand and respect each other’s traditions, points of view and sincerity. We must be able to conduct good-natured dialogue openly and honestly, without denying our unique beliefs. The answer must be in there somewhere.
In order to promote harmony and understanding, we are therefore working on three activities:
- Community action based on the values we already share
- Interfaith dialogue, exploring each other’s points of uniqueness
- Silent contemplation and listening together – believing that God does speak to us, and looking for the commonality in the messages we receive
In order to support this we have started to collect initial faith statements in the format:
- Core Values (shared with other faiths)
- Core Beliefs (focusing on those particular to each faith)
- Grounds for Beliefs (foundations supporting the core beliefs)

If you would like to add a further belief system, please click here.
If you belong to one of these faiths and would like to express a belief or theological idea, please click here.
If you belong to one of these faiths and would like to propose a related personal or social value, please click here.
If you would like to evaluate or comment on a belief or value that has already been put forward, please click here.
In consultation with faith leaders, we will constantly refine these statements in the light of the beliefs and values that people regard most highly, in order to develop community understanding of the faiths.
